Fast answer

Confirm your race place before committing to an inflexible stay. Then compare the real journey from your room to the announced race facilities, including luggage, breakfast and the return after finishing.

If you only do one thing

Choose the base after the 2027 race logistics are confirmed, with cancellable arrangements while your entry is unresolved.

Plan the stay and rail journey

Compare Cinque Terre overnight bases and travel without a car against your confirmed race schedule.

Race weekend

Let the confirmed race plan choose the base

Compare the village and rail gateways by the start, finish and collection locations rather than by scenery alone.

Confirm entry before a non-refundable stay

Checked 13 September 2026: the organiser announces the SciaccheTrail weekend for 19–21 March 2027 and says the 2027 edition has only the classic 47 km distance. The entry lottery is open until the end of October 2026. A lottery application is not a confirmed race place. Verify the draw, payment and participation conditions with the organiser before making non-refundable travel commitments.

Choose the room around the current race logistics

Confirm the 2027 start, finish and bib-collection instructions before selecting a village. Compare Monterosso with rail bases in Levanto and La Spezia only after that check. A room with steps, a remote check-in or a long walk from the station may be inconvenient with a kit bag or tired legs. Ask about breakfast, luggage storage and checkout rather than assuming race services are included.

Use the train plan, with room for delays

Check March train services for both arrival and the return after your race. A daytime connection does not establish an early start transfer or a late finish journey. Keep the first and last travel day flexible. Do not use a ferry as the only way to reach your start: sailing season and sea conditions require separate confirmation.

Give supporters their own route

A race entry does not grant companions access to closed trails or special transport. Choose legal viewing points from the organiser and park notices, and agree a meeting point that still works if phone reception is poor. A village meal or a short walk can be a better companion plan than trying to follow every stage of a mountain race.

Treat March conditions as a planning decision

Use the organiser’s current equipment rules and the national park’s trail notices. Do not copy the 2026 route, distance menu or start times into a 2027 booking. Keep a weather alternative for companions and check cancellation conditions for accommodation and activities. This guide helps plan a visit; it does not guarantee entry, trail access or bookable rooms.

Before you rely on this

  • The 2027 date window, single 47 km distance and lottery notice were read on the organiser’s website on 13 September 2026.
  • Daily start times, a confirmed 2027 route, room availability and current transport are not established by that announcement.
  • Accommodation and transfer choices are editorial advice. Existing destination guides explain their own partner options.
FAQ

Quick planning questions.

When is SciaccheTrail 2027?

The organiser announces 19–21 March 2027. Check the detailed programme for the race start and collection times; the weekend window is not a timetable for every activity.

Does entering the lottery confirm my race place?

No. Confirm the result and complete the organiser’s required steps before treating participation as secured or making non-refundable bookings.

Should supporters follow the race on the trails?

Only where the organiser and park permit access. Use the current viewing instructions and choose a meeting point; a race does not make every trail accessible to companions.
